What You Can Do To Help

A Call To Action: What You Can Do To Help

Here’s what you can do to stop the madness of these planned Fort Ord Developments:

First and foremost: Write to the County Board of Supervisors. Tell them to stop approving subdivisions when there are 4,100 approved and not-yet-built homes on former Fort Ord Land. Tell them to stop approving projects on open space when the real blight on Fort Ord has not been addressed. The Supervisors have the final say over what projects get approved. Make sure you write to District 5 Supervisor Dave Potter. He, in particular, loves promoting big development projects.

Write to FORA. Demand that all development proposals be frozen until they revise their grossly outdated Base Reuse Plan. Demand that further work on Eastside Parkway be halted until they can actually produce a tangible economic argument for its existence.

Go to a Board of Supervisors Meeting and publicly comment against these developments. Keep an eye on upcoming agendas to keep informed of important decisions. You can speak publicly about these projects at any meeting, even when they are not on the agenda.

Go to a Planning Commission Meeting and publicly comment against these developments. Keep an eye on upcoming agendas to keep informed of important decisions. You can speak publicly about these projects at any meeting, even when they are not on the agenda.

Go to a Fort Ord Committee Meeting and publicly comment against these developments. Fort Ord Committee Meetings are attended by members of the Board of Supervisors, FORA and the Monterey County Redevelopment Agency.

Go to a FORA Board Meeting. Keep an eye on upcoming agendas to keep informed of important decisions. You can speak publicly about these projects at any meeting, even when they are not on the agenda.

Read Chapter 3 of the 2010 Monterey County General Plan. Ask public officials why we have a General Plan if we’re just going to ignore it?

E-mail the Monterey Downs developers and tell them you don’t want their development on Fort Ord Open Space: info@montereydowns.com
